I shake my head to try to unfreeze. “Um, yes. I hope it's okay that I came back,” I reply. I'm searching my mind, trying to come up with the reason for my appearance.

He doesn’t hold my gaze. “Sure. I don't have much time to talk, though. I have a lot of work to get done,” Isaac answers, looking down at the papers again.

I walk into the room and stand by the doorway. “That's okay. I'm not here to bother you. Actually, I thought maybe I could help you. Maybe that would lighten some of your workload?” I suggest. The words are out of my mouth before I know what I am saying.

Isaac looks surprised once more, then scratches his chin. “I guess that would be okay. I'll start you off with something easy,” he replies and goes back to studying the papers.

“Perfect. Whatever you say, whatever you need, I'm here.”

I look around the room and try not to be nervous. It's too late to back out now.

“Okay, Mia. Let me show you what to do.” Isaac walks over to a table with boards and plywood. “Put these on,” he says, handing me a hard hat and safety glasses. I obey. Once they are on, he gives me a pry bar. “This is kind of easy, but you need a lot of arm strength,” he explains. I do my best to pay attention and not obsess over his body. “We are taking out the door frames and windowsills in the entire house. It's the next step of the demolition.”

I nod, then gasp as he grabs my arms. The older man stands behind me. Body pressed to my back, he lifts my arms over my head. “I'll show you first, so you get the idea,” he explains. Gripping my hands, he helps me hook the metal bar into the thin strip of wood above the door. Gently but firmly, he pushes my arms upward. His body presses firmly into mine. The wood loosens with a crack. “Just like that. Don't be afraid to use all your arm strength,” Isaac says proudly. He walks away, and the loss of his body heat almost knocks me over.

I need a minute. I feel flushed and overwhelmed. My legs are shaking.

“Don't worry. You can do it,” Isaac calls out encouragingly, and I realize he is observing me.

I lift my arms and do as instructed. More wood comes loose. I hear Isaac hammering away behind me. I start to get into the work and feel proud of myself. When I reach the end, and the top of the doorway comes down, I have to jump back a little as the pieces of wood hit the ground. I turn around and bump into Isaac. He is smiling.

“It’s supposed to fall. It's a demolition. That's why I gave you the hat,” he explains, gently patting me on the head.

I look up into his face. Isaac is so close I can smell his cologne mixed with his sweat. I can't think clearly. Our eyes are fixed on each other. I can't take this. It's just too much to handle—all this tension. Setting the bar down, I pull off the goggles and hat. I need to get out of here. I throw them down, turning to run away. Isaac stops me by grabbing my shoulders. As I turn back, my heart skips a beat.

His dark eyes linger on me. Suddenly his head bends down, and I feel the soft, warm skin of his lips on mine. I can feel the slight stubble on his chin rubbing against my face. How can a kiss feel so sweet and masculine at the same time?

My arms move up around his shoulders. Isaac lifts me off the ground, and I wrap my legs around his waist. He pushes me against the wall. Held up in the air with the wall supporting my back, I’m gasping and panting as Isaac kisses my neck.

This is happening so fast.

I suddenly stop. Sensing my hesitation, Isaac freezes and sets me on the ground. “Is everything okay?” he asks, looking at me. I can't meet his gaze. I'm embarrassed. “You can tell me anything, Mia,” he assures me. I realize that he is right. If I want this to work out with him, I have to be completely honest.

“Well, I'm still a virgin,” I admit shaking as I say the words aloud.

I'm terrified to see his reaction, but I need to. I look up at Isaac. He is gazing at me with kindness and sincerity. “It’s okay. If you want me to stop, I will,” he says. His voice radiates compassion and understanding.

I gaze at his handsome face. Suddenly, I know I don't want him to stop. I want to be with Isaac and give all of myself to him. I’m ready. As I wrap my arms around his shoulders, he lifts me up and lays me gently on the floor. He is practically cradling me.
